Thunder general manager Sam Presti released a statement on Holmgren's injury on Thursday.
"Certainly, we are disappointed for Chet, especially given the excitement he had about getting on the floor with his teammates this season," Presti stated.
"We know Chet has a long career ahead of him within our organization and the Oklahoma City community," Presti stayed optimistic.
"One of the things that most impressed us during the process of selecting Chet was his determination and focus," Presti continued.
"We expect that same tenacity will carry him through this period of time as we work together and support him during his rehabilitation," Presti concluded the statement.
As a senior, the 2.13-meters tall Holmgren averaged 21 points and 12.3 rebounds for Gonzaga University last season in the NCAA.
Holmgren averaged 14.1 points, 9.9 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 3.7 blocks as a freshman at Gonzaga, helping the Bulldogs go 28-4 to reach the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament.
