The Oklahoma City Thunder recently lost the prospect, Chet Holmgren, for the next season due to an injury and now asked the NBA league for a 5$ million exception, according to Shams Charania of the Athletic.

Holmgren, who was selected number two overall in the 2022 NBA draft, will go through surgery to heal the ligament damage in his right leg.

In the wake of this misfortune, the team requested the activation of the disabled player exception, in which they will receive 4.95$ million, which corresponds to half the salary of the young prospect. In addition, this should allow the Thunder to open a roster spot for one more player.

The Thunder general manager, Sam Presti commented on the future of Holmgren with the team after the injury.

"Of course, we're disappointed for Chet, especially given how excited he was to get on the floor with his teammates this season," said Presti.

"We know he has a long career ahead of him in our organization and in the Oklahoma City community," the Thunder general manager said in a statement after Holmgren's injury.
