His shoulder injury turned out to be particularly serious and might require surgery.

On Sunday, Shenegelia addressed his fans with a heartfelt message on social networks, where he showed support for the Georgian national team, love for the national team fans, and showed some bitterness that he will not be able to participate in the upcoming EuroBasket.

Full Shengelia's message to the fans:

"Thank you all so much for your support and positive messages. I can't tell you how I feel when I feel such support from you. Since the day when it became clear that EuroBasket was being held in Georgia, probably not a day has passed without thinking about this event. Each of my actions was aimed at meeting the games as ready as possible and meeting your expectations. But in sports, along with many other positive moments, such moments also happen often.

It hurts my soul more than my shoulder that I won't be able to help the Georgian national team at such an important moment and I won't be able to stand on the court next to my boys at the right time.

However, I am calm today, because I know the character of our fans and our players, and I am sure that difficult moments will give them more motivation and strength.

Don't worry about me, I've been in this situation many times and I've come back stronger. I thank God for giving me the ability to fight and helping me overcome difficulties.

Now please direct all your positive energy and support towards our team, I can tell you from personal experience that every cheer counts a lot.

Only together, as a team, we will be able to achieve great goals!"
