In a game against Serbia, Larkin played 36 minutes and finished the duel with 4 points (1/1 2PT, 0/3 3PT, 2/2 FT), 9 assists, 5 rebounds, 2 steals, 3 turnovers, and 14 EFF.
Turkey is heading to the upcoming EuroBasket 2022 suffering four losses in a row – two in friendly games (86-87 vs. Poland and 80-89 vs. Greece) and another two in World Cup qualifiers (85-111 vs. Latvia and 72-79 vs. Serbia).
Naturally, some Turkish fans showed their discontent with overall Larkin and the team's play.
My role with the national team and my role with Efes are different," Larkin wrote on Twitter. "People want the same guy, but it's a different team with different personnel."
"I play to help my teammates be better and to win. It's not about me, it's about us. Proud of our character tonight, but we came up short," Larkin added.
One of the replies Larkin received was that he should take more responsibility.
"You probably right. As the point guard gotta find the right mix. It'll get better, be patient, my friend," Larkin responded.
"Bro, you didn't shoot when you're wide open? How is this justified by your so called 'role'? Besides, it's the same coach and the same arena. Ball is ball," another Twitter user replied.
"One shot, brotha. You right, that one shot I definitely should have taken," Larkin answered.
Another Twitter user replied by reminding Scottie Wilbekin's performance against Team USA when in 15 minutes, he scored 12 points (1/4 2PT, 3/4 3PT, 1/1 FT) and added 3 assists, 1 rebound, and 11 EFF.
Larkin's answer was short and simple.
"They lost," reminding about Turkey's 92-93 loss in FIBA World Cup 2019.
Turkey will begin their journey in the EuroBasket on Thursday, September 1, and face Montenegro in the Group A opener.
