Amedeo Tessitori will be Danilo Gallinari's replacement in Italy's 12-man squad that's going to play their EuroBasket group stage in Milan.

Amedeo Tessitori was the last addition to Italy's roster for EuroBasket 2022. Following the injury suffered by Danilo Gallinari in the match against Georgia, Gianmarco Pozzecco has reinstated the 27-year-old center of Reyer Venezia, who will be available to the coaching staff from tomorrow.

The Italian center last season with Virtus averaged 4 points, and 2.6 rebounds in the EuroCup competition.

"Tessitori, as a player and as a man, has earned himself the right to be our 13th player. Jokingly, we can say that he will have to live this adventure with us against his will," coach Gianmarco Pozzecco joked.

The 49-year-old tactician also commented on Danilo Gallinari's injury. The team's superstar is set to miss another EuroBasket for the fourth time, after 2007, 2013 and 2017.

He suffered an injury while preparing for EuroBasket 2007, he had to miss EuroBasket 2013 for a knee injury he had suffered during the NBA season, he missed EuroBasket 2017 because he injured his hand after throwing a punch at a Netherlands' player during an exhibition game.

"What happened to him also happened to me several times. I can understand his state of mind because for similar reasons I had to miss the European and World Championships," Pozzecco remembered.

The Azzurri will make their debut at EuroBasket 2022 on Friday 2 September against Estonia. Group C, hosted in Milan, also features Greece (September 3), Ukraine (September 5), Croatia (September 6) and Great Britain (September 8).

All the matches will be played at 9.00 pm at the Forum di Assago.
