Olimpia Milan to sign Italian prospect Leonardo Okeke / News - Basketnews.com
The Italian side is investing in the future by signing one of the best prospects in the country, who'll be sent on loan for the next season
Credit: FIBA Credit FIBAItalian powerhouse Armani Exchange Milan is signing Italian prospect Leonardo Okeke to a multi-year deal, sources confirmed to BasketNews. The news was first reported by Superbasket.
Okeke signed a multi-year deal with Bertram Derthona last summer and played on loan in the Italian second division, where he was named the best U-21 player of the league.
Despite a contract until 2025 with Derthona, Milan decided to pay the EuroLeague buyout which was included in the player's contract.
Okeke, though, won't immediately join the team and will be sent on loan for the next season to continue his growth. As of right now, the most likely candidate to take the player on loan is Joventut Badalona.
The player is considered one of the best prospects in Italy and might represent an important resource for the team moving forward.
Okeke averaged 9.2 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks per game in the past season in the Italian second division.
It was a busy day for Armani Exchange Milan that today also announced officially the signing of German big man Johannes Voigtmann to a two-year deal.
