In the first game of the American Championship, the US national team suffered an unexpected defeat, losing 73-67 to the Mexicans.

The United States (0-1) started the FIBA AmeriCup with an unexpected failure. In the tournament held in Brazil, the Mexicans (1-0) presented a surprise by defeating the United States national team with a final score of 73-67 (15-14, 21-21, 20-13, 17-19).

In the middle of the third quarter, the Mexicans went on a 13-3 run and gained a tangible lead (49:41).

In the fourth quarter, the representatives of Mexico, who withstood all the attempts of the Americans to break the game, celebrated the victory.

The national teams of Mexico and the United States compete in Group C of the AmeriCup tournament, which also includes the teams of Venezuela and Panama.
