"Even before the time I missed, there was a moment when I pulled my hamstring again. I didn't play the last game against Slovenia because I pulled it against Bosnia [and Herzegovina] and we were trying to recover for this game," Hanga told.
"For this game, the plan was to not play that much, about 10-15 minutes but after the Bosnians beat Slovenia, we had only one option to make it into the Top 16 by beating France," he explained."
Hanga ended up playing almost 28 minutes in the game, scoring 18 points in the process.
"We gave it all and I tried to give it all but my leg was just sending me a sign," Hanga continued. "I had this injury throughout the whole season basically, I knew what was going on, and that was probably the last game in the tournament for me.
Even if it's not broken, there's a game in two days, then another game. Obviously, mathematically we're not going to go to the Top 16 so I am probably not going to play."
With Hungary's win-loss record standing at 0-3, Hanga revealed that he played his last game in EuroBasket 2022. Being a veteran, the player admitted that the state his hamstring is currently in does not allow him to continue playing in the tournament.
"I know myself. This is an injury that doesn't allow you to play. Even if I wanted to play, that's not the decision I want to make. If it depended on me, I would play," the Real Madrid's forward told. "Even yesterday I couldn't play. I was still feeling it when I was walking up the stairs. Thanks to the medical staff, I warmed up before the game but this is it, I'm getting older."
"It was the stepback that I did and I just felt instant pain just like when you tear the muscle. I don't know if it's torn, we'll see when it gets cold but I can feel it now."
Hungary will play its next game on Tuesday against Lithuania which is also winless throughout the first three games.
