Argentina turned it up in the second half with a 28-20 third quarter and extended their lead to 75-64 heading to the fourth quarter.
It was more of the same in the final 10 minutes, as Argentina never let up and closed out Puerto Rico by outscoring them once again to seal the win.
"I think the guys played a complete game on both ends of the floor. I think we did a really good job following the gameplan, so we are really happy, excited with the first two games and hopefully, we can continue," said Pablo Prigioni, Argentina's head coach.
Argentina got big contributions from the trio of Facundo Campazzo, Gabriel Deck, and Nicolas Laprovittola.
Campazzo dished out a tournament-high 15 assists along with 17 points and 6 steals, Deck just missed out on a double-double with a game-high 27 points and 9 rebounds, and Laprovittola finished with 20 points along with 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals on 6-of-15 shooting from a three-point zone.
Puerto Rico had two players score in double figures, as Christopher Ortiz paced the Boricuas with 21 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the field, while Justin Reyes recorded 14 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals.
Argentina remains unbeaten at 2-0 in Group B, while Puerto Rico dropped their first game of group play and is now 1-1 in the group. Argentina will close group play against the Dominican Republic on Tuesday, September 6, while Puerto Rico will face the Virgin Islands on the same day.
