Full Georgian Basketball Federation statement:
"The National Basketball Federation of Georgia expresses its indignation due to the provocative actions taken by the head coach of the Turkish national basketball team. His action was aimed at escalating the situation, he did not shy away from obscene gestures towards the game referees and the spectators present, his unethical behavior, previously voiced several times in the press and at press conferences.
Those insulting statements had an impact on the players of the Turkish national team, a clear example of which was Furkan Korkmaz's display of physical aggression towards the players of the Georgian national team, which was accompanied by threats and aggressive actions from his side... Messages of threats and encroachment on life were also hijacked by fans of the Turkish national team, many of them were directed to and received by the players of the Georgian national team.
The National Basketball Federation of Georgia demands an appropriate response from FIBA on the mentioned issue in order to give a strict response to the deliberately provocative behavior of the head coach of the Turkish national team.
At the same time, the slanderous statement of the vice-president of the Turkish Federation, Omer Onan, about the attack on their player by the police and the players of the Georgian national team is surprising and beyond all limits...
The National Basketball Federation of Georgia makes every effort to clarify Omen Onan's wrong and offensive statement as soon as possible, and hopes that Omer Onan does not voice the sentiment of our friendly federation towards us and our state structures, and this is only his personal interpretation, which is not strengthened by any means. With the evidence and that is why we ask for a timely special investigation to determine the truth.
The National Basketball Federation of Georgia completely disassociates itself from all forms of violence. Our position is that what happens between the players and the participants of the match should not go beyond the boundaries of the field."
