Lithuania captures its first win on an easy night against Hungary / News - Basketnews.com

Domantas Sabonis and Jonas Valanciunas combined for 40 points and 16 rebounds en route to an easy win against Hungary.

Lithuania (1-3) took control of the match in the second quarter and never looked back against Hungary (0-4) 64-87 (18-22, 15-26, 19-27, 12-12).

Lithuania was noticeably nervous at the beginning of the game, and Hungary managed to take advantage of it at first, leading in the middle of the second quarter (29-28). However, Lithuania then went on a 15-2 run and took a 12-point lead (43-31).

The first half finished with the Lithuanians being 15 points in the lead. The second half was no different as Lithuania continued to dominate. The favorites led by 23 after three quarters, and the last 10 minutes of the game was a formality.

Hungary played without its leader Adam Hanga who aggravated a hamstring injury in the last match and was forced to miss the end of the tournament.

The two Lithuanian centers in Jonas Valanciunas and Domantas Sabonis led the way with 40 combined points between them. Sabonis made every single shot from the court (6/6), grabbed 8 rebounds, and dished out 4 assists for a team-leading 30 PIR. Besides his 21 points, Valanciunas added 8 rebounds as well.

Lithuania will now face Bosnia and Herzegovina (2-2) in their last match of the group stage tomorrow that will decide whether they will go to the next round or not.
