The five-time Olympic gold medalist stayed on the floor after the final buzzer, receiving hugs from the entire Aces roster. She wiped away tears as the crowd cheered and cried with her at the end of her career.
41-year-old Sue Bird had ended her career after two decades. In the WNBA she only played for the Seattle Storm, where she won four titles since being drafted number one in the 2002 WNBA draft.
The American player has also played for three Russian teams during the WNBA's offseasons in her career.
Bird was the oldest player in WNBA this past season but still managed to average 7.8 points, 6 assists, 1.9 rebounds, and 1.2 steals per game.
Bird has been vocal about various issues including social justice, LGBTQ and women's rights in recent years since she started dating her partner, soccer great Megan Rapinoe.
