Three seconds into Slovenia vs. Germany game, the Barcelona newcomer landed awkwardly on his right ankle after a jump ball, and the referees had to stop the game.
A 27-year-old Tobey left for the locker room but fortunately returned to the floor in a few minutes.
"They threw the ball up, and I landed thinking as we players used to land in a certain way, so that doesn't happen. But I guess the referee was too close for too long. Injuries and that kind of stuff happen," Tobey recalled.
He finished the game with 10 points and eight rebounds in 25 minutes.
Once, Tobey asked for a substitution at the beginning of the fourth quarter.
"It didn't feel great, obviously," Tobey admitted. "I haven't been able to really jump too great. But I knew it was an important game for us, so I had to play with my guys."
He wasn't sure how he would feel the following day. Slovenia meets France to decide the winner of the group of death.
"It's still warm, so it's easy to play. Tomorrow is probably going to be more complicated," he laughed.
Tobey was happy how Slovenia recovered after a tough Bosnia and Herzegovina loss and snapped a victorious Germany run 88-80.
"We did a great job staying together as a team today. That was a big thing for us with Bosnia. We kind of separated from each other, which was a big problem for us. Another thing was bouncing back from the German game we played in the FIBA window. We did a great job limiting offensive rebounds. And Luka was amazing today," Tobey concluded.
