Georgian Basketball Federation posted an official message on social networks urging to support the Belgian national team in Wednesday's game against Bulgaria, as Belgium's win would keep Georgians' chances to advance from Group A alive.

Full Georgian Basketball Federation's message on social networks:

"To get out of the group, the Georgian national team must beat Montenegro, but before that, if Belgium does not beat Bulgaria, it will not matter.

On the other hand, Belgium has quite a lot of motivation, because in case of defeat against Bulgaria, they will not advance themselves. So, Belgium plays for Georgia along with itself, and it would be desirable if Georgian fans come to attend this match and support the Belgians. Spectators will be free to attend the game and the more fans that come to Tbilisi Arena, the better for Belgium and Georgia."

Georgia hosts the Group A of EuroBasket 2022 in Tbilisi and it has not been the smoothest experience. Georgian Basketball Federation has received criticism for poor attendance, mediocre organization, and incidents on and off the court.

This might very well be another dent in not so-successful hosting of the event.

The motive behind the invitation for free to support the Belgian team is simple, in case Bulgaria wins their game against the Belgians, then Georgia will lose their chances to advance from the group.

Turkey and Spain have already clinched their spots in the knock-out stage in Berlin, however, the other 4 teams of Group A will fight for the remaining 2 tickets in their last matches on Wednesday.

Here is the current situation in Group A:
