Credit: FIBA Credit FIBAGiannis Antetokounmpo picked up an ankle injury in the 24th minute of Greece's game against Estonia, and did not play again.
The 'Greek Freak' left the arena limping after the end of the match. Antetokounmpo, who scored 25 points on 8/9 two-pointers, 1/1 three-pointers, 6/7 free-throws, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal and 2 turnovers, had to receive treatment at his team's bench.
Some feared Giannis had twisted his ankle, but coachDimitris Itoudisappeared reassuring after the outing.
"Giannis would not play any more minutes, anyway," Itoudis said. "He was doing his rehabilitation," he added.
"I don't know why there's such a fuss," Itoudis wondered at the postgame presser. "Giannis was substituted and got iced like it always happens behind closed doors. Now, it just happened in public view. Now, it's all out in public. Everything is ok."
However, the Bucks superstar was spotted heading to Greece's bus with a small limp after the game. Antetokounmpo stopped to sign some autographs and take some selfies with the gathered crowd that was patiently waiting for him outside the Mediolanum Forum.
Referring to the game, which ended up in another comfortable win for Greece, Itoudis told the media that giving Kostas Antetokounmpo some playing time is one of Greece's gains.
"It's good that Kostas is back with us and took minutes.
I think we were very good and although we relaxed a little in the end, that doesn't anything away from our effort. We managed to share the time.
We played seriously, respecting the game, despite that we were first in the group. Congratulations to all the teams that qualified and to those who didn't."
