After performing the MRI, it became clear that the Anadolu Efes Istanbul's star will need surgery on the fingers of his shooting hand and will be out for approximately two months, including the beginning of the EuroLeague season.
"For us, it's a shock because I honestly expected him to return. But the news is like this. The EuroBasket is finished for Shane Larkin," Ataman confirmed to BasketNews.
The coach of both Anadolu Efes and the Turkish national team added that Larkin injured his fingers during the game against Montenegro.
Larkin has been averaging 9.2 points on just 33% shooting.
He shot just one shot in the game against Belgium, six against Spain, and seven against Montenegro, while he usually averaged double digits in the EuroLeague.
Turkey faces France in the Round of 16 in EuroBasket 2022 playoffs.
"Okay, without Larkin, we lost too much offensively. But my team is good. We still have good players," Ataman didn't raise the white flag.
