After registering just the fourth triple-double in EuroBasket history earlier this month, Mateusz Ponitka has received significant attention from EuroLeague clubs. His efforts with the national team have now materialized.

As reported earlier, Ponitka has now officially moved to Panathinaikos OPAP Athens. The club has announced that the Polish player has agreed on a one-year contract.

UnaHotels Reggio Emilia announced that the club has reached a deal with PAO for the rights of Ponitka. Panathinaikos' official announcement is expected tomorrow.

According to Sportando, the Greek club is expected to pay a €100,000 buyout for the previous Ponitka's club Reggio Emilia, with whom the player had signed a three-month contract earlier this summer.

The Polish forward scored 26 points, grabbed 16 rebounds, and dished out 10 assists in the quarterfinal match against Luka Doncic's Slovenia en route to the biggest upset in modern EuroBasket history.

It will be the fourth EuroLeague season in a row for the forward, having spent the previous three with Zenit Saint Petersburg.

Ponitka averaged 4.7 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 2.6 assists for Zenit last season in the EuroLeague. His numbers in EuroBasket 2022 were significantly better - 13.4 points, 5.3 rebounds, 5.7 assists, and 1.6 steals in 27 minutes of play for the Polish national team.
