One of the biggest criticisms of the Mavericks is the lack of an accompanying star on the roster for Doncic to both help ease the pressure and provide additional scoring when needed the most.
However, talking with Malika Andrews on NBA Today, the Slovenian superstar denied the notion of needing another All-Star to succeed.
"We have great players on our team, there are plenty [of] very underrated guys that I think should be talked about more," Luka told. "I don't think so, we have a great team."
"Number one, Dorian Finney-Smith. He's worked really really hard, he's one of the best defensive guys, if he's open, he's going to make the shot. Spencer [Dinwiddie] is going to have a big role this year," Doncic explained. "Talking about Christian Wood, he's a new player in Dallas but I think he's going to be huge for us."
Another topic of discussion when talking about Doncic is technical fouls. He led the league in this category, receiving 17 technicals last season. His antics were being talked about during EuroBasket 2022 as well, where he received two technical fouls - one during the group stage and one during the quarterfinal against Poland.
Asked whether he was planning to change anything in that regard, Luka gave an explanation.
"One thing about me is that I don't want to lose, that's why I'm totally different off the court," the Slovenian forward told. "I have to control it. It's not only a bad look for me, it's a bad look for the entire team. I have to look to my teammates and be better for them."
Doncic was 5th in NBA MVP voting last year. It's on his mind, the Mavericks star says.
"Yeah, hopefully. [Getting the] MVP is unbelievable," Luka told. "If I could be named MVP, it would an enormous accomplishment, I would be so happy but you never know."
Dallas Mavericks will open their training camp next week, starting with Media Day on Monday, September 26th. The first preseason game is scheduled against the Oklahoma City Thunder on October 5th.
