Seconds before the emotional victory against Serbia, Italy's national team head coachsaw the Greek Freak in the tunnel of Mercedes-Benz Arena, jumped on him, and kissed him.
"I love you, Giannis!" he screamed and ran to the gym to celebrate with his players.
Pozzecco apologized to Giannis Antetokounmpo the next day when the coach met him in the elevator.
"Sorry, Giannis," he told the NBA finals MVP. "I apologized, of course."
"But I was happy because we were winning," he explained to the player. "And he started to laugh."
12 days later, Pozzecco appeared on the Trento Sports Festival stage where he gave an even more extensive look at that viral situation. The Italian specialist shared what exactly Giannis told him after the hug.
"I noticed Giannis in the tunnel. I'm sure he knew what I was going through emotionally. When he first saw me, he smiled. You could tell he wanted to share my happiness. And then I got ready to jump, I saw his face, and he was clearly thinking, 'This is an idiot'," Pozzecco recalled the famous moment.
"Luckily, he was ready to take me in his arms," the 50-year-old continued. "I kissed him and said, 'I love you'. You can't see it [in the video], but he clearly responded to me in Greek, 'F*ck you'.
We met again the next day at the hotel. I apologized to him. Giannis said he had to thank me because I had taken away some tension before the game. He played great that day, but Greece lost two days later... At least, they can't say they lost because I jumped on Giannis," Pozzecco concluded the story.
