When Curry was initially asked to respond, he didn't believe Giannis said it at all. After journalists explained that it happened just recently, the guard answered.
"I don't know if it was gamesmanship to set the table for... I would say the same thing when you're facing the champions," Curry began. "That's part of the nature of the league. We all want to win the championship, and when you look at the team that's the last team standing and who was playing the best, I was thinking the same thing about him last year, coming off their run."
"I appreciate the compliment. It's not going to soften me up to get complacent at all," the superstar guard told. "But you do appreciate the respect of your peers to go out and say stuff like that, and I've been in the situation where I'm complimenting guys around the league a lot as well."
Curry averaged 25.5 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 6.3 assists during the regular season for the Warriors. When the playoffs came, the three-point master increased his scoring numbers to 27.4 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 5.9 assists.
Curry is a four-time NBA champion but claimed his first Finals MVP trophy just this year. He's a two-time NBA MVP (2015, 2016) as well as Antetokounmpo (2019, 2020).
