Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's record was considered unbeatable by many in the years past but King James is more than likely to beat it in the upcoming season.
To break the record in the upcoming season, James needs only 16.5 points per game if he plays 80 games and 22 points per game if he plays 60 games.
Considering the Lakers superstar comes off 30.3 points per game season, it is more than likely that he will be the new all-time scoring leader after the next season concludes.
Jabbar still leads the way with 38,387 points, followed by James with 37,062, who spoke at the Lakers media day on the matter.
"Knowing that I'm on the verge of breaking the most sought-after record in the NBA keeps me humble. It's a record that people say would probably never happen," said James.
"I think it's pretty cool. Obviously, Kareem has some disagreements with my opinions, but at the end of the day, to be put in the equation with him, with a guy who wore the same jersey. I think it's just amazing. It's great for me to be in this conversation," added James.
Last month, the 37-year-old signed the maximum 2-year extension with the Lakers for $97.1 million, keeping him in Los Angeles until 2025.
