A bigger and taller team without a pure point guard. That is what the Nuggets had in mind for the upcoming season. That's why the Argentinian guard, who is 1.78-meters tall, was not in the plans for the Denver team.
"Facu [Campazzo] gave his heart and soul when he was here. He was loved in the locker room," said Booth on Monday at a press conference for NBA media day in Denver.
"We wanted to try to be a little bigger team and we didn't think it was absolutely necessary to have a real point guard like Facu so we made the decision to move in a different direction," he added.
"I know he probably wanted to have played more. But these are things that happen throughout a season," Booth said.
In his 2020-21 NBA rookie season, Campazzo averaged 6.1 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 3.6 assists in 21.9 minutes per game.
However, last season the Argentine point guard had his role reduced on the Nuggets and averaged 5.1 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 3.4 assists in 18.2 minutes per game.
Campazzo recently said that his goal is still the NBA. He's still waiting to see if any NBA team hires him for the 2022-23 season, however, rumors have also circulated in the past weeks about a possible return to Europe, where the most likely team would be Real Madrid, where he played from 2014 to 2020.
