The Chicago Bulls head coach Billy Donovan is preparing for the scenario where Lonzo Ball might miss the entire 2022-23 season.
Credit: USA TODAY Sports Credit USA TODAY SportsThe Chicago Bulls' starting point guard Lonzo Ball is set to undergo knee surgery, and on Tuesday, he revealed he still can't run or jump.
Last season Ball was acquired by the Bulls via trade but played in just 35 games and underwent arthroscopic surgery on his knee.
The point guard's last game was on January 14, and in April, the team announced that he was done for the season.
Bulls head coach Billy Donovan is setting himself up for the possibility that Ball might miss the entire 2022-23 season.
On Monday, during the NBA Media day, Donovan was asked if he has to prepare for Lonzo Ball to potentially miss the entire season.
"I think you have to," Donovan answered the question.
Donovan was not ready to name Ball's replacement at the starting point guard position.
"I don't want to sit there and say it's [starting point guard position] like wide open," said Donovan.
"I'm more concerned about how groups function and play together, more so than just one position," continued Donovan.
"And I do think at the point guard position, there is experience that we've got with Goran [Dragic], there's experience there with Alex [Caruso]," added the coach.
Last season the Bulls fell in Eastern Conference standings after Ball's injury and ended up losing in the first round to the Milwaukee Bucks as the number 6 seed as a result.
Ball averaged 13 points, 5.4 rebounds, 5.1 assists, and 1.8 steals per game in 35 showings last season with the Bulls.
