Although the Greek Basket League tips off in ten days, until very recently, the country's top competition had no TV deal in place.

However, that's about to change very soon. According to Live Sport, Greek public broadcaster ERT and ESAKE (the clubs' union) have reached an agreement for the upcoming season with an option for another one.

The deal is worth €6.5 million and is expected to be ratified officially in the coming days. According to the report, ERT will pay ESAKE and the 12 teams a sum increased by one million euros compared to how much the rights had cost in the 2021-22 season.

The teams' initial requirements amounted to €7 million, but no negotiations were made since ERT was the only bidder.

In terms of the distribution of the TV contract, an issue which will be discussed at length on October 3, teams have various demands.

Panathinaikos BC Athens and Olympiacos Piraeus require €1.2 million apiece, AEK Athens €750.000 and the two teams of Thessaloniki, PAOK and Aris, ask €450.000. From the €6.5 million, €650.000 will cover the needs of the league and the federation, which is entitled to 5% of the total sum.

This means that the rest of the clubs will have to share around €1.7 million, divided by seven. In other words, each one of those seven clubs (Promitheas Patras, Apollon Patras, Peristeri, Ionikos Nikaia, Karditsa, Lavrio, Kolossos Rhodes) will have to make do with €240.000.
