Olympiacos easily defeat Panathinaikos to capture their first SuperCup / News - Basketnews.com

In a game of runs, Olympiacos went on a decisive 10-2 run in the third quarter to capture their first SuperCup.

Olympiacos Piraeus went on a 10-2 run to start the second half en route to the first Greek SuperCup in the club history over Panathinaikos Athens 67-52 (18-15, 19-19, 19-9, 11-9).

It was a game of runs from the very beginning. Panathinaikos started the game with a 9-2 run but Olympiacos immediately answered with a 16-2 run of their own to gain a seven-point lead (18-11).

The second quarter marked an 8-2 run by PAO to regain the lead (24-23) only to surrender a 9-2 run from their opponents (32-26). The back-and-forth battle ended with a three-point difference between the teams coming into the half.

Olympiacos started the second half with a 10-2 run to establish an 11-point lead (47-36). This time, Panathinaikos did not immediately answer back, and the eternal rivals were separated by 13 with just 10 minutes left to play (56-43).

Following a Giannoulis Larentzakis layup, Olympiacos had a comfortable 16-point lead with 6 minutes to go in the fourth quarter (61-45) and cruised to a SuperCup title.

Sasha Vezenkov and Moustapha Fall led Olympiacos in scoring with 12 points each. Vezenkov also added 11 rebounds to record the only double-double of the match. Fall, on his part, contributed with 5 rebounds and game-leading 5 assists.

Following his performance, Fall was awarded the MVP trophy.

Paris Lee was the top scorer on the Panathinaikos roster with 12 points on 4-for-10 shooting.

Panathinaikos: Paris Lee 12 (2/5 2PT, 2/5 3PT), Derrick Williams 10.

Olympiacos: Sasha Vezenkov 12 (3/7 2PT, 2/7 3PT, 11 REB), Moustapha Fall 12 (5/8 2PT, 5 REB, 5 AST), Giannoulis Larentzakis 11.
