"I heard some speculation that it [a foreign player addition] could happen. If the invitation comes, I'm open to that possibility," the New York-born guard with a Serbian passport told Novosti.
"Of course, it would reduce my free time between seasons, but it's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity," Punter added. He would become the first-ever foreigner in the Serbian NT.
Kerr Kriisa appears to be against such a scenario.
Following a Twitter post on Kevin Punter, the 21-year-old Estonian tweeted that "National teams are losing their point" in modern FIBA basketball.
Kriisa joined the Argentinian basketball legend and country's national team coach Pablo Prigioni, who earlier commented on Lorenzo Brown's express naturalization and international basketball.
"I was always against it [naturalization]," Prigioni told Basquet Plus.
"For me, the national team is the purest thing. We already have club competitions to compete with players from all over the world. And I find it fantastic."
Prigioni then compared the situation with naturalized players to a transfer market, where national teams have an opportunity to choose from foreigners.
"It ends up becoming that. And it doesn't make sense to me. If we don't win with our players, we will have to work harder in training and so on," the 45-year-old concluded.
