Kyle Hines, one of the main leaders of the team, spoke with La Gazzetta dello Sport and explained his goals for the new season. During the interview, the player also revealed the length of his new contract with the Italian team.
Olimpia Milan would love to reach the EuroLeague Final Four, while Hines would love to win the fifth EuroLeague title of his career. The hope for both sides is that something like that could happen already this season.
"It's a goal and an opportunity for both of us", Hines said during the interview. "In the last two seasons, this team has always been among the top four in the regular season, so we can do that again. For me, winning the fifth EuroLeague title with a third team would be fantastic. I have two years to do it. I hope and count on it".
So Hines revealed that the new contract that he signed with Milan is for two years, something that wasn't officially announced by the club before. The American big man also explained which are his personal rules to win the EuroLeague.
"Personally, I have five rules", Hines explained. "First one: the ability to overcome adversity during the games. The second: consistency, continuity of performance in the single game and throughout the season. Third one: trust and believe, you have to trust your teammates, your coaching staff, and the executives. Fourth rule: patience, there's gonna be bad moments during the season, and you should not fall into pessimism because of that. And the final one: passion, you cannot win if you don't enter the court with the pleasure of playing basketball".
Looking back at his career, Hines also mentioned the player that was kind of his mentor and made him the player that he's right now.
"For sure, Vassilis Spanoulis, a teammate that taught me everything in the locker room and on the court", Hines told La Gazzetta dello Sport. "His passes were simply eye-opening".
Hines began his professional career in Italy with the second-division side Veroli, under coach Andrea Trinchieri. During those days, for him, it was almost impossible to imagine the type of career that he would have had in the future.
"I really wouldn't have imagined that type of development", the veteran said. "When I was 23 years old, after two good seasons with Veroli in the Italian second division, coach Trinchieri, who was really important in my career, brought me to Bamberg, in Germany.
At that time, I was already happy to play in the highest level of European competition. In the 2010-2011 season, while I was playing with Bamberg, I had a good game against Olympiacos, so I became a target for them. In two years at Olympiacos, I won two EuroLeague titles and I raised my level".
