"I am extremely excited to announce that I have joined Olympiacos! I look forward to getting to work. I appreciate all the warm welcomes and love shown by the incredible fans!
I am grateful & special thanks to the coach, GM, management, and everyone else for this opportunity," the 28-year-old wrote on his social media account, eventually changing its name to 'Official Fan Pag of Joel Bolomboy.'
"Better late than never! Too busy owning it on the court. Stay strong and wishing you and the team all the best for this season," commented a fan below the post.
"Totally unexpected," added another one.
"Damn, you so quick," supporters continued to join the party.
"What a beautiful unexpected morning surprise this announcement was! It's awesome that you move and play faster than you post. Welcome, Joel!"
Other Twitter users compared Bolomboy's tweet to newspapers and Internet Explorer, which are synonyms for delays. Meanwhile, others could not believe it was true.
"Really, I thought it was a troll post. I was looking for nicknames and account names to see where the mistake is."
"Joel, I think the performance in Barcelona was the best announcement," wrote one more fan.
"A bit late, mate, but your performances excuse this. Welcome to Olympiacos!"
Indeed, Joel Bolomboy set an example in his first EuroLeague game for Olympiacos. He accumulated 12 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assist, and a game-high 20 PIR to help his team take down FC Barcelona away.
"Proud of my guy Joel Bolomboy! Special player, but a truly special person! One of the most humble superstars I've ever had the pleasure to spend time with! Go attack that EuroLeague again," Steve Smile, former Bolomboy's coach at Weber State, contributed to congratulations on a more serious note.
Before coming to Greece, Bolomboy spent four seasons with CSKA Moscow. He won the EuroLeague (2019) and two VTB United League (2019, 2021) titles during his time with the squad.
The big man was one of the first CSKA players to leave the team after Russia's invasion of Ukraine and did not return despite the threats he received.
