According to Shams Charania and James Edwards III from the Athletic, the club intends to waive Walker before the deadline on Monday. The move would bring the roster to the guaranteed 15 places.
Kemba was traded to the Pistons from the New York Knicks on draft night this June in exchange for future draft picks. With the move, Detroit accepted to take Walker's expiring contract (one year, $9.2 million remaining).
In 37 games with the Knicks last season, Walker averaged 11.6 points, 3 rebounds, and 3.6 assists.
"I've got something in the tank, for sure," Kemba told the Boston Globe a week ago. "I feel great. I'm going to be honest. I'm going to have my opportunity. I'm not in any rush right now. I'm just grinding and trying to feel as good as I can. And right now, I feel great. I feel as good as I've felt in a long time. I'm just waiting for the opportunity."
