Greek journalist Chris Kaouris from NovaSports reports that Andrew Andrews should be cut from the team following the signing. According to Kaouris, the team is no longer planning to sign an additional player to the power forward position, although interest in one particular option was previously shown.
Bacon played in two NBA preseason games with the Lakers, averaging only 5.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.0 assists in 17.4 minutes per game, but didn't impress enough to earn a roster spot.
Interestingly, Panathinaikos head coach Dejan Radonjic has previously said Bacon to be not the type of player they were looking for.
"We are building a new team with new players, and we want a player who competes at the four. Bacon has a different profile than what we need.," he said last week.
However, the loss against ALBA Berlin in the last round has changed the club's view.
After the game, a Zoom meeting took place where Radonjic, the team's general manager Argyris Pedoulakis, and owner Dimitris Giannakopoulos discussed the team's performance. Giannakopoulos decided to give the team an extra financial boost now totals €5 million.
It was agreed that Panathinaikos needed a scorer in order to be more productive offensively.
According to the club, a special clause is included in Bacon's contract that allows for the deal to be terminated, or for fines to be imposed, if the player misbehaves or shows any signs of indiscipline.
