Last week, Panathinaikos Athens played against ALBA Berlin in the EuroLeague in the first match of a double week. It was the first time Mateusz Ponitka came back to that same arena where the Polish national team shocked the world and got into the Top 4 of EuroBasket 2022.

"The hall now looks a bit different than during the EuroBasket and that surprised me. I think that also brought back memories," Ponitka told Przeglad Sportowy. "But not for a long time. I didn't really have time to experience what happened at the EuroBasket."

After the tournament, the forward expressed doubts about whether he is going to represent Poland in the upcoming tournaments. Talking about his future in the national team, Ponitka was still not sure.

"I am seriously thinking about taking a long break. I think this is a good time for other players to prove themselves," the player said. "I am tired of the constant dramas and scandals. I would like to take a break from this."

Before EuroBasket 2022, Ponitka got into a public conflict with his brother Marcel with each of them revealing private details from their family life.

"People wanted to hear the truth, so after a long time without speaking about it at all, they heard the truth," Mateusz explained. There is no such thing as a half-truth or some truth."

Poland will host EuroBasket 2025 together with Latvia, Finland, and Cyprus.

Ponitka averaged 13.4 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 5.7 assists during EuroBasket 2022 where Poland sensationally beat Slovenia in the quarterfinals. The forward scored the only triple-double of the tournament during the match, collecting 26 points, 16 rebounds, and 10 assists.
