There are only two players above Paul - Jason Kidd (12091 assists in his career) and John Stockton (15806).
"Honestly, I didn't have a clue until I checked out of the game," the player said after the game.
Paul did it against one of his former teams in one of the most famous arenas in basketball.
"I was just studying the play and my teammates. I was fortunate to play for a while now with great shooters and great players in general," Paul explained his success.
"I started off with David West, got a chance to play with Tyson Chandler, Peja Stojakovic, came here to play with Blake Griffin, DJ (De'Andre Jordon), JJ Redick... I can keep going," he named his former teammates. "Now playing with Book (Devin Booker) and all these guys, I'm privileged."
If Paul keeps up the number of assists per game he currently has, he will need to play 101 more matches to surpass the current Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd and claim second place in the all-time list.
