With 4:20 minutes left until the end of the game, Morant burned the clock by not touching the ball. After 20 seconds of walking the dog, Morant took the ball into his hands, and finally, Simmons got closer to put some pressure on.
However, right after Simmons got close to Morant, the referee blew the whistle for a foul, which was the 6th for the Australian point guard.
Brooklyn eventually lost the game 124-134.
"You tell me," Simmons replied when asked what happened. "It wasn't a foul. He [the referee] called the foul, he made a mistake, but it is what it is."
"It's really frustrating. It's bullshit. It's late in the game, fourth quarter, a physical close game. It's the NBA, not college, not high school. Some people are going to get hit, some people bleed – it's basketball," Simmons added.
Simmons fouled out twice in three games so far. This season, the 26-year-old has 17 points and 14 personal fouls in total.
Simmons finished the game with 7 points (2/4 2PT, 0/1 3PT, 3/5 FT), 8 assists, 3 rebounds, 1 steal, and 5 turnovers in 28 minutes of playing.
Currently, he averages 5.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 6.5 assists per game.
