"First off, take accountability," Johnson said in the Club Shay Shay podcast. "If you don't play well, admit it. When I didn't perform against the Celtics in '84, I admitted that. I took accountability. I said to myself that I got to get better."
Johnson also said that Westbrook shouldn't pay too much attention to the fans or the media and simply concentrate on his own game.
"I got booed, and I said to the coach, 'I'm about to turn it up.'" Johnson recalled. "I must have went for about 10 triple-doubles [in a row]. All of sudden, you start to hear not the boos but cheers. We won the championship the same year.
That's what Russell has to do. Stop trying to fight the media and fans and go out and perform. That's how you'll stop all the things that are going on. You can't do it by coming back at them or being mad at the fans or the media. Media has a job. And if you're not playing well, their job is to say that you're not playing well," Johnson added.
This season, Westbrooks averages 10.3 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game.
