Carro confirmed that the Argentinian guard received interest from Europe, but his ultimate goal was to remain in the NBA.
"At the beginning, the problem was that the market was quite an anomaly," Carro told the Argentinian outlet Basquet Plus. "Facu told us that his priority no. 1 was the NBA, no. 2 the NBA, no. 3 the NBA and no. 4 Europe, whether it was Madrid or another club."
Carro also confirmed that Kevin Durant's request to be traded from the Brooklyn Nets stalled all negotiations with the teams.
"We had several interested franchises, with which we were quite optimistic, but then the break due to the possible trades of Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving stopped everything. Nothing happened. Almost two months passed, and then everything was reorganized. And the options were falling.
There was Golden State, which depended on whether Iguodala returned or not. If he didn't come back, Facu could have entered. Iguodala came back, and it didn't happen. With the Lakers, they came to talk 20 times, but in the end, they decided on Schroder," Carro revealed.
Eventually, Campazzo signed a 1-year deal with the Dallas Mavericks. However, the deal with Mavs was also complicated because of Dallas' salary cap situation.
"And there was Dallas. The issue with them was that the operation became more complicated because of the salary cap and the luxury tax," said Carro. "But Jason Kidd had been asking for the player for a month, and general manager Nico Harrison was convinced that Facu was the player they needed for what they wanted."
Carro mentioned that Doncic had some influence on bringing Campazzo to Dallas but wasn't the key reason.
"Obviously, Luka Doncic, being the team's superstar, knew what he could bring. You had to wait longer than necessary, but you have to keep in mind that there are still more than 80 free players who ended up playing last year.
I would be lying if I said that he was the key. Obviously, when they asked him [about Campazzo], he gave a great opinion, but the key was Kidd. They took longer than necessary because they were over the salary cap and had several players to cut. But they were clear that they wanted a point guard, and the one they liked the most was Campazzo," said Campazzo's agent.
Although Campazzo's intention has always been to continue in the United States, there was a time when they considered the possibility of returning to Europe.
According to Carro, Real Madrid was not the only option.
"Europe was a plan B. It cannot be compared to the NBA. In basketball, it is like that. Facu always wanted to play in the NBA. In Europe, Madrid has the right to match any offer that comes to it in Europe, period. Due to budget issues in Europe, you can only talk with five teams. From the entire Euroleague. We all know what they are," Carro remained vague.
However, he strictly denied all rumours regarding the interest from Partizan Belgrade.
"After that, every rumored conversation is ridiculous," stated Carro. "With all the respect in the world, for the Partizan thing to come out makes no sense. We have not contacted them, nor have we been contacted by them."
Last season, the Argentinian guard averaged 5.1 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game in 65 matches played for theDenver Nuggets.
Two-time EuroLeague champ joined the Nuggets in November 2020.
He has competed in a total of 130 games and registered 5.6 points and 3.5 assists.
Campazzo left the EuroLeague and Real Madrid in the 2020-21 season after averaging 9.3 points, 2.5 rebounds, 6.7 assists, and 13.5 PIR in 10 games.
