The government decided that due to the difficult period, it cannot provide €1 million in financial support to help Zalgiris to host the Final Four.

However, Zalgiris president and GM Paulius Motiejunas told national broadcaster LRT that the club remains among the candidates to host EuroLeague's final stages.

"We received an answer that the government won't provide the needed funds because of an upcoming crisis, and there is no money for such events," Motiejunas told LRT. "We are taking it as a fact."

"We prepared the whole plan for the EuroLeague, and with the municipality's support, we are prepared to host the Final Four. We and the EuroLeague were hoping that the government would also help.

Speaking in basketball terms, the ball is in their [EuroLeague's] court, and we await the response. The chances [to host the Final Four] are slim because our project is very small compared to other Final Four candidates," added Motiejunas.
