"It is a start of communication between FIBA and EuroLeague. These gestures that have been made are much more important than they may seem."
"It was agreed with mutual availability. We must not belittle this step. Whether this will lead somewhere, I don't know. It would have been harmful [situation] when the EuroBasket and World Cup champions coach had to decide whether to coach the club or the national team. We hope to build something on it," added the Italian coach.
Being previously scheduled to take place on November 11th, the game has been moved to November 9th. The start time doesn't change - it remains at 20:30 CET.
It comes as a measure for EuroLeague matches not to interfere with the 2023 FIBA World Cup Qualifiers window. WithSergio Scariolobeing both Virtus and the Spanish national team's head coach, he would otherwise have to choose which roster to coach.
Scariolo's Spain (5-1) play against Italy (5-1) on November 11th in the Qualifiers window.
