Luka Doncic scored 33 points last night to lead the Dallas Mavericks past the Utah Jazz, marking the 7th game in a row where the Slovenian scored 30+ to start the season.

The 23-year-old superstar surpassed Michael Jordan, who previously had a record of 6 such games, and now only trails the legendary Wilt Chamberlain. Interestingly, Luka is not the only player that has 7 30+ point games to start the season as Jack Twyman did it in the 1959-60 season as well.

Doncic's number is third all-time with Chamberlain's 8 (1959-60) and 23 (1962-63) topping it.

"I just know from last year I had to start better because the way I started last year wasn't acceptable," the player told after the game. "I tried to learn from that and just do better than last year."

Head coach Jason Kidd had only praise for his guard.

"That's rare air and we get to see that on a nightly basis," he said. "That's pretty cool. A 23-year-old kid that is playing on this level is really, really special to see. He can do it in so many ways, when you talk about posting up or getting to the basket, shooting the 3, or shooting that little step back. It's really cool to watch, and it just shows the focus that he has right now. He's carrying the team and putting the team in a position to win."

After last night's win, the Mavericks have won 4 games out of 7 to start the new 2022-23 season. Next, the team is set to face the Toronto Raptors on Friday night.
