But despite the lack of playing time so far, Fontecchio remains positive and he's pretty sure that his time will come, as he revealed in an interview with Sky Sports Italy.
"This is my first experience in the NBA, so it's only normal and right that I have to fight for every single minute", Fontecchio explained. "Slowly, I'm trying to earn my teammates and the coach's trust. Coach Hardy wants me to be always ready on the perimeter".
"I want to say to the Italian fans following me: 'Don't feel sorry for me when I'm not playing. I'm feeling good. My moment and my minutes will come, so don't worry", Fontecchio added during the interview.
The Italian player also revealed that he's been in touch a lot with Nicolò Melli, the captain of the Italian NT.
"I've talked and I keep talking a lot with Nicolò", Fontecchio said to Sky Sports. "We often compare our experiences and for me, it's extremely helpful. But all the players within the national team this summer gave me great advice".
Fontecchio was also asked about Paolo Banchero. The two haven't met yet but the Italian wing hopes that the moment can arrive soon.
"I haven't met him yet. I hope that I'll be able to see him soon when we'll play against each other, so we'll be able to go to dinner and talk a little bit".
The Orlando Magic and the Utah Jazz will face each other on January 14 in Salt Lake and then again in Orlando on March 10.
Fontecchio so far is enjoying every bit of his NBA experience, despite the lack of playing time.
"It's an amazing environment, everything is super", the Italian player confessed. "I'm enjoying every single moment of this experience. I'm trying to learn as much as I can and I want to be ready every single time the coach decides to put me in".
Jazz have been one of the most positive surprises of the season so far, with a really hot start. Fontecchio explained that the team is playing with a chip on its shoulders.
"Not a lot of people took us seriously before the start of the season and that was an extra motivation for us", Fontecchio stated. "We want to show what type of team we are and how good we can be, we're very united".
