The Catalan team will be Layman's first stop outside the USA, as he's played for three years with the Blazers (2016-19) and another season with the Timberwolves (2019-22), while he also had a short passage in 2017 from the Windy City Bulls in the G League.
The Boston Celtics recently cut Layman, opening the opportunity for Panathinaikos Athens to strengthen their frontcourt. The Greeks had agreed on the financial terms with the player, but they later opted to sign Dwayne Bacon instead.
In the 2016 NBA Draft, Layman was selected with the 47th pick by the Orlando Magic.
In the 2021-22 season, Layman played 34 games for the Timberwolves, averaging 6.0 minutes, 2.4 points, and 1.1 rebounds per game.
Layman played in 243 games throughout his NBA career, averaging 4.8 points and 1.7 rebounds.
He will be featured with Team USA for November's FIBA AmeriCup windows, which can give the Americans a 2023 World Cup spot.
