On Friday, Wembanyama played his best game of the season, accumulating 33 points (7/9 2PT, 3/8 3PT, 10/12 FT), 12 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 blocks, and 41 efficiency ranking in 35 minutes in Metropolitans 92 win against Limoges.
In 7 French league games, Wembanyama averages 21.3 points, 8.9 rebounds, 2.7 rebounds, and 24.9 EFF.
The 18-year-old appeared before the media to make his first statements as a new member of the men's NT.
"I have already played in the French youth team, and that always gives me extra motivation. It is very important for me. I also find it in my teammates, in my opponents. Fighting for your country is totally different, it gives you greater energy," Wembanyama said.
"I will try to include myself in the project, to adapt as well as possible to try to bring two victories to the French team. I will try to bring freshness, my presence on the court. In the French team, in FIBA and at all levels, it all starts from defense, so I will try to bring that energy," the versatile forward continued.
"Before starting the season with Boulogne, I didn't say to myself 'I have to dominate'. We had to learn to play together as a team, and the first objective remains to win, no matter how. I will try to replicate that in France, since it is going rather well in Boulogne-Levallois," Wembanyama argued.
In the France team as in Boulogne, coach is Vincent Collet, whom Wembanyama called one of the main reasons why he joined Boulogne-Levallois.
"I had discussed a lot with him before. I think he's my best asset here, I knew what to expect but he pleasantly surprised me with his knowledge, with his involvement and with how willing he is to do the best in order to have a healthy project," the player said.
Asked about his most memorable play of France, Wembanyama mentioned Nicolas Batum's block on Klemen Prepelic that sealed Les Bleus' passage to the Olympic Games final game in 2021.
"But what especially marked me when I started at Nanterre as a pro, was playing against players I watched in the French NT when I was 10 years old, like Antoine Diot."
