On one of the talk shows, Spears talked about the possibility of Mexico joining the NBA.
"It's the fifth largest city in the world, 30 million people live there," Spears argued. "There are over 30 million people who can watch or have access to Capitanes games on ESPN Mexico. They have a 22-thousand-seat arena."
"This would not be New York. It's 5 times bigger than New York. It will be the biggest market in the NBA if they join. From what I'm hearing, Mexico City is in consideration. Move to the side Las Vegas, move to the side Seattle, Mexico City which also can open the door to Latin America, is a legit contender when NBA talks extension," Spears added.
Currently, Mexico City has a team in G League called Mexico City Capitanes.
NBA also held 30 pre-season and regular season games in Mexico City. This season, Miami Heat will face San Antonio Spurs in Mexico City on December 17.
