"It's true, there are some players who can't play with Dusko," Teletovic revealed in an interview with Mozzart Sport. "These are the ones who don't want to become legendary, don't want to work on themselves, and to be better today than yesterday. Those who aren't dedicated to basketball couldn't play with him."
As the former Baskonia player, Teletovic knows very well what it's like to work with Ivanovic and Crvena Zvezda players can expect from the trophy-winning coach, who was officially presented on Monday.
"Zvezda got an honest man and an extraordinary coach. My advice to the players is very simple: listen to what Dusko tells you, and you will be a better player. He will not lie to you, he will always tell you everything, but in a real, human way," Teletovic said.
"Countless times during my career, he pulled me aside and talked to me like a human being about the things I needed to fix in order for me to be better and for the team to progress. And you know what? He was never wrong. Simply, he understands basketball better than the players on the floor, he is at a higher level than the vast majority," added the former Brooklyn Nets, Phoenix Suns, and Milwaukee Bucks player.
Teletovic also named the reason why Ivanovic won 17 trophies throughout his coaching career.
"It honestly motivated me even more, when the coach near the touchline is energetic. Many times Ivanovic communicated with us the same whenever the match was tied, or we were leading by 25 points 3-4 minutes before the end. He told us how to play defense, going into the smallest details, and the match was realistically decided in our favor. That's why he won so many trophies," said Teletovic.
Ivanovic was without a club since November 2021, when he was fired from Baskonia Cazoo Vitoria-Gasteiz.
Ivanovic joined Baskonia in December 2019. It was his third stint at the Spanish club, which he coached back in 2000-05 and 2008-12.
With Ivanovic in charge, Baskonia won all three ACB titles in 2002, 2010, and 2020.
Throughout his career, the 65-year-old coached such teams as Baskonia, FC Barcelona, Panathinaikos Athens, BC Khimki, among others.
Ivanovic is expected to make his debut on Thursday when Crvena Zvezda will host LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne.
