Position:SGAge:27Height:198 cmWeight:99 kgBirth place:Cannes, FranceProfileNewsStatistics"I'm very happy to return to Europe and to be part of this organization in Milan. I'm extremely excited to have the opportunity to help the team try to reach its goals. Can't wait to meet all the fans and start the work," Luwawu-Cabarrot said.
Luwawu-Cabarrot lands in Italy after a short stint at Phoenix Suns in the NBA pre-season. The 27-year-old swingman arrived in Phoenix following a silver medal with the French national team at FIBA EuroBasket 2022, but his time in Arizona lasted 22 days.
He averaged 8.0 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.3 assists over three pre-season games.
Before joining forces with the Suns, Luwawu-Cabarrot registered 4.4 points and 1.6 rebounds in 13.2 minutes per game with the Atlanta Hawks last season.
The 2.01-meter athlete has 6 years of NBA experience. Ahead of his one-season tenure in Atlanta, he also played for the Philadelphia 76ers, Oklahoma City Thunder, Chicago Bulls, and Brooklyn Nets.
The French player went 24th overall by the 76ers in 2016 after playing four professional seasons in France and Serbia. He holds NBA career averages of 5.9 points and 2.0 rebounds over 328 games.
Meanwhile, Emporio Armani have struggled at the start of the 2022-23 EuroLeague season. The Italian team ranks 14th with 3 wins and 5 defeats.
Luwawu-Cabarrot could be a replacement for Shavon Shields who is recovering from a long-term foot injury. Milan is also missing Luigi Datome, Billy Baron, and Stefano Tonut in the perimeter line.
"Honestly, we are not creating enough advantage on offense. Of course, when you miss so many guards, you know, it's tough to take away top perimeter players like Shields, Baron, and Datome, not to mention Tonut, who is a national team player. Our perimeter is now very challenged, I would say. And overall, we are not playing as we should," Ettore Messina said yesterday after the fourth EuroLeague defeat in a row.
