The Miami Heat and the Washington Wizards scored just 5 combined points during the overtime, overtaking the previous record of the lowest-scoring overtime period of 6.

Last night's NBA game between the Miami Heat and the Washington Wizards went to overtime. However, it wasn't the overtime people in the Capital One Arena expected.

Both teams scored just 5 combined points in the extra 5 minutes of play, overtaking a longstanding NBA record.

Previously, the lowest-scoring overtime period happened on November 15th, 1975 between the Philadelphia 76ers and the Wizards as well when both teams scored 3 points each.

With 3 points to the opponents' 2, the Wizards won last night's matchup 107-106. The last 2 minutes and 48 seconds of the period went scoreless after Kyle Kuzma's free throw.

Bradley Beal led the way with 27 points in his account on a 9-for-18 shooting. Kyle Kuzma contributed with 21 points while Kristaps Porzingis added 20 points and 17 rebounds.

Kyle Lowry was the top scorer on the Heat's squad with 24 points, Max Strus added 22.
