The club took the decision after Hilliard's tweet following the Israeli league loss to Hapoel Jerusalem, 75-80.
"Real eyes recognize real lies," Hilliard tweeted a few hours after the game and later deleted the tweet.
The American wing played 12 minutes and scored 1 point.
Per Moses Barda of One, Maccabi head coach Oded Kattash thought this tweet was directed to him and didn't allow Hilliard to come to the practice.
"Just so you know… I love you guys, The Gate, TLV and all of Maccabi! Truly." Hilliard tweeted later.
So far this season, Hilliard has been averaging 4.8 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 1.2 assists for 4.5 PIR for the Israeli team.
Maccabi will play without one of their leaders as well. Wade Baldwin's partner is expected to give birth during this week, and the club is considering letting the player stay in Israel to participate in the significant family event.
