"I'm always curious when guys have great years then move to another team then all of a sudden the player isn't good anymore… I'm sure they are the same player, so what's really the issue? Free my guy, Darrun Hilliard," one of Anadolu Efes' leaders wrote on his Twitter account.
For his part, Mike James quoted Clyburn's tweet and expressed his support: "Free bro."
Will Clyburn's, Mike James', and Darrun Hilliard's paths crossed at CSKA Moscow, where the trio played together from 2019 to 2021.
According to Israeli media outlets, Maccabi suspended Hilliard after his tweet following the Israeli league loss to Hapoel Jerusalem, 75-80.
"Real eyes recognize real lies," the 29-year-old tweeted a few hours after the game and later deleted the tweet.
The American wing played 12 minutes and scored one point.
Per Moses Barda of One, Maccabi head coach Oded Kattash thought this tweet was directed to him and didn't allow Hilliard to come to the practice.
