Irving was in partnership for a lucrative shoe deal with Nike since 2014. The footwear giant wasn't keen on continuing the relationship due to uncertainty about the player's future in the league, ESPN reported last spring. It seems that the scandal has just accelerated the process.
Irving has been averaging 24.4 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 4.4 assists this season.
After coming back to the court, the player announced he was considering filing a grievance against the club and the league.
"I got to leave that to my legal team and leave that to the warriors I have around me," Irving said. "I have some strong people, men and women around me, that are going to do everything possible to make sure that I'm protected, my family's protected, and we protect one another. So I'm sure some things will be done in the future, but there's no timetable for that right now."
