"We are all grown men here, and sometimes we don't always agree. It's unfortunate that private situations and private conversations get out to the public," Young started off. "I guess that's the world we live in now. I'm just focused on basketball and helping my team win, that's what I have to refocus on."
Pressured by journalist Zach Klein to elaborate on the matter, Young wanted everything to stay as it is and did not provide any additional details besides what Shams Charania reported.
"It's hard for people who don't know the full situation to understand it. Like I said, it's a private matter. It was made public which is unfortunate," the player told. "If it stayed private, it wouldn't have been that big of a deal. My job and my goal is to win a championship and that's what I'm going to focus on."
Wanting to get a straight answer on why Young missed the game against the Denver Nuggets Friday night, Klein continued to question the star guard.
"When you're an outside guy like you are, you don't understand the private matter and the private situation. You should probably stay on the outside," Young answered. "Like I said, it's unfortunate that everybody has to understand it and know a little bit of the details that went on inside. Inside here, we're all good. If you have any more questions, you can talk to somebody else about it, that's all I'm going to say."
"If I was healthy, I would've been playing," Young said. "You don't know the full story, again. A private matter needs to stay private."
According to Shams Charania from The Athletic, Young and McMillan got into a conflict during a shootaround on Friday which led to Young missing a game against theDenver NuggetsFriday night.
While Young was receiving treatment on his right shoulder during the shootaround, coach McMillan approached the star guard asking him to participate and receive the treatment later during the walk-through.
Young disagreed and was presented with two options - either play off the bench against the Nuggets or don't play at all. The guard chose the latter. The team ruled Young out due to right shoulder soreness.
There were no disciplinary actions enforced against the player, Charania reported. Young already suited up for the Hawks against the Oklahoma City Thunder last night, scoring 23 points and dishing out 10 assists.
