Amar'e Stoudemire received his Master's degree yesterday. However, when this achievement was supposed to be the day's highlight, the evening's course was changed quickly.

Miami-Dade police arrested the former NBA player on a misdemeanor battery charge. The victim was one of his two daughters. It is currently unknown which, the 17-year or the 14-year-old, was the victim.

According to journalist Andy Slater, Stoudemire told the officers that her daughter "received a whooping from him for being disrespectful and a liar".

The Miami Herald cites police documents that say the girl was punched in the jaw and slapped until blood started showing on her face.

"I observed blood stains on the victim's sweater and sweatpants," one of the officers is quoted in the incident report. "The mother of the victim showed me the photo she received from her daughter, which shows the victim crying and blood running down her face."

The police report states that the former Phoenix Suns star got angry at her daughter after she answered 'What?' when called by her grandmother. Stoudemire's ex-wife Alexis called the police after receiving a photo from her daughter, asking to help.

Stoudemire is currently in Miami-Dade Corrections custody on a $1,500 bail.
